THIS month, the Society of the Holy Childhood (known in Scotland as Missionary Children) celebrates 181 years of its foundation, which took place as a result of the work of Monsignor Charles de Forbin-Janson, Bishop of Nancy on May 19, 1843. Here, we share with you a message from Sr Roberta Tremarelli, the Secretary General of the Society of the Holy Childhood prior to that anniversary.
Dear missionary children,
In a few days we will celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the Society of the Holy Childhood, and this year this anniversary coincides with Pentecost Sunday, the Solemnity of Pentecost, the day on which we commemorate the great, most important and most precious gift of the Risen Jesus to his Apostles, that is, the Holy Spirit to each of us.
As missionary children, you commit yourselves to being Jesus’ friends, but I also invite you to be friends of the Holy Spirit, our great support. Jesus is our example that we must imitate every day and we can only do this together and with the help of the Holy Spirit. I urge you to invoke Him every day, because only He can help us to inflame our hearts with true missionary passion, the very same passion that Monsignor Charles de Forbin Janson had.
It is the Holy Spirit who can help us bear the good fruits that are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, meekness, self-control.
It is He who helps us to shape and transform our hearts and lives according to the Gospel and to have the same feelings as Jesus.
I wish you a happy feast, a missionary feast.
Thank you for being present and active in the universal Church.
Sr Roberta Tremarelli
